LAUREN
Hey
it's me Lauren; I've been trying to get hold of you for a while now. Could you please ring
me when you get this, thanks.
In order to avoid any issues, I would need consent for the actors to take part in my preliminary and main film opening.
Firstly I asked them to sign an agreement to to feature as actors.
Then because they are under 18 and need parental consent, I asked them both to get the agreement of their parents or guardians to be able to proceed with filming.
This is Amy Preston's consent form, signed by her parent to give consentual agreement in being filmed in my task. Amy will be playing the character Charlotte (Voicemail.)
In my film opening, there will be two main characters - Harry and Charlotte.
Harry- Tim Marcella
Lauren- Amy Preston
Harry is the main protagonist who will feature for most of the film opening. Harry is an average teenager so I have cast a fellow friend of mine to feature in it. The reason for this decision was because I felt this actor could well suit the roll as he is a teenager himself. Also another reason for this was I needed an actor who was quite active and lively as the genre for my opening is action thriller.
Lauren is the second protagonist and is also Harry's friend. She is the friend that Harry goes to meet. For this role I also cast a friend of mine who I knew got along with my protagonist anyway so the friendship between my characters could be easily mimicked. I believe this is important as it would make the acting more natural as both my protagonists are comfortable with each other in real life.

Costumes
Harry- because my character Harry is a teenager, his costume would need to suit that of a teenage boy. For this my protagonist will wear generic teenage boy clothes such as a t-shirt, jeans and trainers. The colours mustn't be too bright and they should be quite basic colours. A white t-shirt would be ideal as it is quite neutral and almost suits the character well.
There are two main settings in the film opening:
- Living room
- Field
I have gained permission for the locations I will use in my preliminary and film opening.
Living room
As the living room scene is going to be filmed at my house, I have asked verbal permission from my parents if I could use our living room for the opening scene the film opening.
Field
The two fields I used and will use in my preliminary and my main film are on and near school grounds so in order to film, consent was needed as it is around a school environment. To do this a few media students and I wrote a letter to the headteacher asking for consent to film on school grounds should it be that we will not film anyone who hasn't given consent.
Props
For example, in the living room there will need to be necessities such as sofas and ect to set the scene.
In the cafe there will be tables and chairs and perhaps a few beverage cups lying around and dishes to set the scene - these will be there naturally as they will be left over by other diners.
However additional props such as a watch and a clock will be needed as they time is the main component of my opening.

Police case file
I have made an amendment to the settings as it was quite difficult to get permission to film in a cafe without raising ethical concerns. This is because it would be difficult to film in a cafe as I would have to gain consent from everyone in the cafe and anyone who walks in which would be extremely difficult. Also I cannot guarantee that no one who hasn't consented will not feature in filming as we cannot control public traffic.
In the place of this, I have decided that I will only stick to the one setting which will be the field.
I will later have to include this change in an updated storyboard.

I changed the storyboard as I had changed locations and needed to change the narrative in order to fit in with my narrative. I got rid of the first and last scene and replaced the first scene with shots 1-6 and replaced the original end scene with shots 19-22.
My film opening will be filmed in various locations.
Here are some of the filming locations I will use.
Filming Location 1: Living room
The first scene will take place in my living room.
The setting will consist of a fireplace, with sofas just like a generic living room.
Filming Location 2: Field
The second location will be filmed in a local field. I will forward this idea by getting permission to film on school grounds.
Filming Location 3: Cafe
The last location will be at a local cafe, where the protagonists will meet and exchange dialogue.

One sentence synopsis
A guy who is making deals to try and cheat death
One paragraph synopsis
My film opening is about a guy named Harry who makes deals with an Angel in order to cheat his death. We will see him receiving phone calls anonymously giving him numbered tasks to do (e.g Task 1, Task 2..) and he has to complete these tasks in order to live The whole film opening will be non-linear, and will start with the scene of his death and then the build up to his death.

I decided to change the name of my movie opening from 'The Hour' to 'Time Out' because I felt as if it suited the narrative and storyline better.
I did some research into similar films with the genre Action Thriller and looked into other movies to see how they represent this genre through camera, editing, sound and mis-en-scene.

Camera Angles and Shots
The types of Camera angles and shots I hope to use are short clips stringed together. This is because they speed up momentum and create action. Also using a variety of shots such as slow pans, behind-the-shoulder, extreme-closeups, closeups, medium shots, long shots, extreme long shots, point-of-view shots, cut-aways and wide shots.
The camera angles I hope to use are eye-level, high angle, low angle, bird's eye.
I also want to include camera movement such as tilt, panning and dolly.
Examples of this can be found in this clip of Casino Royale:
Editing
In my editing I want to included shots of short duration edited together. I may include some cut-aways at still action to contrast different momentums. I would make the pace and rythmn fast paced and upbeat along with the sound. I will also include elements of montage. In transitions I want to include black cuts. I will use a lot of match on action too.
An example of this is here at 1:52
Mis-en-scene
Lighting: In my research I came across many different types of lighting styles used in action films.

Here are some common conventions of an action thriller:
Dominant alpha-male / alpha-female (although males are generally cast to play the main role ofan alpha in this genre) examples of this could be:
Actors
Sylvester Stalone is famous for his acting in many action movies such as Rocky Balaoa
- Strong physical strength/healthy physique, as action movies tend to involve a lot of strength from characters.
- Female characters are usually protrayed as quite fragile and distressed often needing rescuing. This role of females in this genre does spark some controversy on the way women are stereotyped.
- Another common role of female actors are used as almost objects, with women being portrayed as a possession - something to be bragged about like trophy wives. A typical convention of an Action Thriller is a story line of a guy winning the women in the end like a prize.
Plot
- Plots in this genre usually follow a simple storyline of a dilemma occuring that causes a lot of distruption and the main characters way of overcoming this issue.
- The way this character tries to overcome this dilemma provides a lot of action - perhaps a fight or a braul.
- Action thrillers contain a lot a movement from characters- like them running or a car chase.
- Typically in these movies you always have a protagonist and an antagonist - good vs evil or it can even be evil vs evil.
After researching between three types of Thriller; Horror, Psychological and Action, I decided to go with Action Thriller. I chose this type of genre as I really liked the idea of creating something that is upbeat and full of adrenaline. This genre usually focuses on a narrative based around some action or a dilemma. Some examples of action are:
- Robbery
- Murder
- Car Chases
- Fighting
Action Thrillers are action packed which keep you on edge and the aim of these are to keep you entertained with the continuous action.
